Getting Started

Do I need to create an account?

No! Leafed requires no account, registration, or sign-in. Just download and start using it immediately.

Is the app really free?

Yes, completely free. No in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no hidden fees.

Does Leafed work offline?

Yes, for previously viewed books. Once you've loaded a book's details, you can view it again without internet. However, searching and scanning require internet connection.

Camera & Scanning

Why does Leafed need camera access?

The camera is used for two features:

  • Barcode scanning - to scan book ISBN barcodes
  • Bookshelf scanning - to use OCR to identify book titles from photos

The camera is only used when you open the scanner. We never store or transmit images.

The barcode scanner isn't working. What should I do?
  • Ensure good lighting
  • Make sure the barcode is clear and not damaged
  • Hold the phone steady, about 6-12 inches from the barcode
  • Try moving closer or further away
  • Make sure you've granted camera permission
Can I scan books without a barcode?

Yes! Use the search feature to find books by title, author, or ISBN. Or try the bookshelf scanner feature which uses OCR to read book titles from photos.

Features & Functionality

How do I save books for later?

When viewing a book's details, tap the heart icon in the top right. You can view all saved books in the "Saved" tab.

How do recommendations work?

Recommendations are based on books you've viewed and saved. The more you use the app, the better the recommendations become. All data stays on your device.

Where does book information come from?

Leafed uses public APIs including:

  • Google Books API
  • New York Times Books API
  • Open Library API
Why do I see Amazon links?

Amazon affiliate links help support app development at no extra cost to you. You're not required to use them - they're just a convenient way to purchase books.

Does Leafed track what I'm reading?

No. All data (saved books, preferences, recently viewed) stays on your device. We don't collect, track, or share any information about your reading habits.

Privacy & Data

What data does Leafed collect?

None. Leafed collects zero personal data. Everything is stored locally on your device using secure, encrypted storage.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't collect data, so there's nothing to sell. Your privacy is our core value proposition.

How do I delete my data?

Simply delete the app. All data is stored locally, so uninstalling removes everything. There's no account to delete or servers to contact.

Is Leafed GDPR/CCPA compliant?

Yes, by design. Since we collect no personal data, we exceed privacy requirements. Your data never leaves your device.

Technical Issues

The app crashes when I try to scan.
  • Make sure you've granted camera permission
  • Restart the app
  • Update to the latest version
  • If issues persist, contact us through the app
Search results aren't showing up.
  • Check your internet connection
  • Try searching for a different book
  • The search queries multiple APIs, so sometimes it takes a moment
  • If consistently not working, contact us
Dark mode isn't saving my preference.
  • Make sure you're using the latest version (v1.0.9+)
  • Go to Settings → Appearance → Toggle Dark Mode
  • The preference should save automatically
  • If issues persist, contact us
Bookshelf scanner isn't recognizing books.
  • Ensure good lighting in the photo
  • Make sure book spines are clearly visible
  • Try taking a new photo from a different angle
  • Some book covers are easier to recognize than others

Platform-Specific

Is Leafed available on iPad?

Yes! Leafed supports both iPhone and iPad.

Is Leafed available on Mac?

Yes, on Apple Silicon Macs. Note that camera features may be limited on Mac.

When will Leafed be available on Android?

Leafed is already available on Android! Check the Google Play Store.
